Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto today announced three people are in custody in connection with the murder of a Westbank resident. They are accused of murdering 20-year-old Francisco Nieves of Gretna.

"On January 2, 2018, at approximately 12:15 a.m., the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office received notification regarding a homicide that occurred in the 1500 block of Avenue A in Marrero," said the sheriff's office in a news release. "JPSO Detectives quickly identified several persons who were involved in the homicide and its aftermath."

Officials say 20-year-old Archie Armstrong is charged with second degree murder, and 21-year-old Vernell Wilson and 31-year-old Stefanie Enciso are charged as accessories after the fact.

"While conducting their investigation, JPSO Detectives were made aware that members of the Gonzales Police Department discovered the body of an apparent homicide victim who had been shot several times," said the sheriff's office. "The members of the two agencies acted in collaboration to determine that the body was that of Francisco Nieves, and the homicide had indeed occurred in Jefferson Parish."

Sheriff Lopinto would not speculate as to the motive for the crime, but said it appears the victim and three suspects all knew each other prior to this incident.
