A lot of work goes into a football season.  It starts shortly after the Super Bowl ends for most guys.  Light workouts, running, rehab to try and recover from a long grueling year.  You work to better yourself, to maximize your earning potential, to keep your roster spot from evaporating.  Yet, always, in the back of your mind, you’re preparing, because winning a championship is a dream you’ve always had since you were a child.  It’s a dream that so many have and so few achieve.  To represent your city in front of the whole world is a feeling that is impossible to describe.

The Saints can’t win a championship tonight, but they can take another giant leap forward.  The division rival Carolina Panthers find themselves clinching to a faint hope of playoff football.  Desperate teams often win in the NFL.  While they are hoping and desperate, the Saints find themselves in the driver’s seat.

A loss by the L.A. Rams last night has led to a small cushion in the race for the one seed in the NFC.   A one seed doesn’t guarantee a trip to Atlanta, but the prospects of the path going straight through the Superdome is awfully attractive.  The magic number to do that is 2.  Two wins and the Who Dat Nation will be the 12th man in the NFC.  I don’t know about you, but I like the way that sounds.

The Saints take on the division rival Carolina Panthers tonight under the lights, in Charlotte.  Let’s keep up the tradition, Saints fans.  Turn down the sound on your TV and turn up the team who knows the Black & Gold best, Saints all-time leading rusher, Deuce McAllister, and yours truly….on the New Orleans Saints Radio Network.
