Strief: Showdown in Seattle will reveal how Saints respond to adversity

“Every season contains adversity.” That’s something Sean Payton shares with his team at the beginning of every season. You will experience struggle…and you will be tested mentally and physically. The challenge and the test that faces every team is how they deal with that adversity. We are about to find out.

The Saints, who started this season as a favorite, are suddenly an underdog. Coming back from adversity is nothing new to the Gulf South.  It’s nothing new for the New Orleans Saints. Afterall, life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.

As athletes you are trained to move on. Cam Jordan’s 24-hour motto speaks to never staying too up or too down.  Even inside the whistles of the game, we tell each other to move on to the next play. Control what you can control. That is exactly what this team will be tasked with for the foreseeable future. The past 6 days the New Orleans Saints have circled the wagon, conveniently tucked away in a hotel in Washington, spending each day surrounded by only each other. It’s the perfect setup for a situation like this. No one to rely on but themselves.

In life, nothing good comes easy. This week is no exception. The Saints traveled to Seattle, week 2 of their west coast road trip, to take on a Seahawks team flying high. A hostile environment in The Link awaits the Black and Gold, a place where they haven’t won since 2007. They look to turn that record around without the help of their golden armed quarterback. The Saints come in as underdogs, suddenly seen as an average team without Brees under center. Something tells me the glutton of talent in the Saints locker room won’t appreciate that.

It’s a showdown between NFC contenders. The New Orleans Saints battle the Seattle Seahawks live from Century Link Field. Turn down the sound on your TV and sync up to the pros who know the Saints best…here on the New Orleans Saints radio network.
