Saints new wide receiver Dez Bryant was at his first practice today and head coach Sean Payton says that the 30 year old needs to get into game shape.

“He's a little heavy and that’s pretty common”, said Payton. “I think probably five pounds without having gone through a training camp and we felt like he did a number of things that we liked in the workout.”

What did Bryant think of his first day officially in Black & Gold?

“I’m just knocking a little bit of the rust off, but it was good”, he said

There is a little rust to since he hasn’t been in action since the end of last season in Dallas. The Cowboys cut him back in April due to a massive contract, and Bryant has been out of work despite interest from a few teams. Looks like his patience paid off. He joins one of the top teams in the NFL and gets to catch passes from a future Hall-of-Famer.

“Oh man, I’m extremely excited”, Bryant said while smiling. “I get to play with that baby goat Mike Thomas, that baby goat Alvin Kamara, the big goat Drew Brees, Mark Ingram, Lattimore…I’m just excited to play with these guys.” G.O.A.T. has become a popular term in sports over the last few years which stands for Greatest Of All Time.

The addition of Bryant turned out to be more of a need than a luxury for the Black & Gold now that Cameron Meredtih has been placed on injured reserve. Does Dez think he’ll be ready to suit up and play this Sunday in Cincinnati?

“That’s what we’re working on.  We’re going to see, I’m going to leave that up to coach”

Bryant had 69 catches for 838 yards and 6 touchdowns in 16 games last year season, but that was in dysfunctional Dallas with Dak Prescott at QB. Now with the big goat Brees throwing him the ball in New Orleans, Dez’s passion for playing could be reignited and help the Saints in their quest to reach the Super Bowl.
