Steve: Week 8 Around the NFC South

For the first time in 4 years, the Saints are perched atop the division standings thanks to winning 4 in a row. The Black and Gold have impressively dug themselves out of an 0-2 hole, and they can earn their fifth straight triumph Sunday if they beat the 3-4 Chicago Bears in the Superdome.  No games are a gimme, but the Saints are heavy favorites to take care of business.

Panthers (4-3)

After losing to the Saints, things looked to turnaround for Carolina who then went on to get road wins in New England and Detroit. But those finicky cats returned home to lose to the Eagles, then were mauled in Chicago by the Bears.

The Panthers look to land on all fours on the road this week in Tampa Bay.

Falcons (3-3)

Talk about a Superbowl hangover! The Dirty Birds have dropped 3 in a row and just lost again to Tom Brady and the Patriots in week 7, but this time they never had a lead. One thing that was impressive in that game for the ATL was the scoring grab Julio Jones made. He rips the ball right out of Malcolm Butler's hands.

The wounded Falcons swoop into the Big Apple this Sunday to take on the J-E-T-S, JETS JETS JETS. This may have looked like an easy victory for the Birds at the start of the season, but it's no sure thing now. The Mean Green are 3-4 and have played a lot better than anyone thought they would.

Buccaneers (2-4)

Yo-ho, yo-ho a pirate's life is not foro me. These are troubling times in Tampa, with the Buccaneers having dropped 3 striaght, which has also helped add a bit of tension in the locker room.

As a whole the Bucs defense is struggling after being viewed as a strength enterting 2017.  The team almost pulled off a double-digit combeack against Buffalo, but the former LSU Tiger Tre'Davious White forced and recovered a fumble late to set up a game winning field goal with 30 seconds left to play.

The Buc's ship is taking on water at a high rate as they are sinking in the standings. Who will be the more desperate ballclub when they host Carolina?
