Steve: Lots on the line for LSU baseball

The games that "don't matter" for the LSU baseball team concluded with the Tigers taking down Northwestern State 9-3 in the home finale last night. The Purple andGold end up with a 8-6 record in mid-week games and are 36-17 overall.

Postseason play doesn't start until next week; but from here on out, EVERY game counts for the Bayou Bengals.  LSU is 18-9 in SEC play and will close things out in Starkville with an all-important series against Mississippi State.  Take 2 of 3 from the 17-10 Bulldogs and the Tigers will be SEC West champs. Sweep the series along with Kentucky getting 2 wins at Florida, and LSU will be the conference's regular season king.

First things first though....take care of business versus MSU who are 17-10 in-conference with a home record of 23-8. The road hasn't been kind to LSU who are 7-8 away from Alex Box Stadium. Winning the West would at least assure the Tigers a coveted first round bye in the SEC tournament, and it would bring them a bit closer to the main objective of a earning top 8 national seed in the NCAA tournament.
