The sun was out in full force this morning and even though it is just May 20th, it's beginning to feel like summertime in New Orleans. The good news is that means NFL training camps aren’t too far off, and Saints voluntary organized team activities actually kickoff this week.  Before that happens though, Coach Sean Payton got to enjoy Monday on the golf course for the Saints Hall of Fame Classic at the Bayou Oaks in City Park.

“It’s a chance to introduce a few new things, but it’s also a chance to get some of the younger players around the veterans,” said Payton about OTAs. “And, of course we have some veteran players that are new. So you’re really looking at beginning the process. You’re beginning an installation that is going to be similar to training camp and yet really the focus is still on the lifting and the conditioning.”

Payton is looking good heading into the 2019 season despite spooning helpings of ice cream while binge watching shows on Netflix following the awful outcome in the NFC championship to the Rams. No reason to remain in a funk, his team has made some nice upgrades in free agency and the draft and are one of the favorites to win this years’ Super Bowl.

“There is no secret message to start the spring,” Payton replied when asked if there is anything he is going to tell his players at the start of OTAs. “As we get closer to training camp, we'll get a little bit more focused on how we approach the season"

The full voluntary OTA workout dates for the Saints are May 21-23, May 28-30 and June 3-6. Then mandatory minicamp will be held June 11-13.
