As he works his way back from a preseason injury, defensive end Alex Okafor was more visible on the practice field Tuesday, increasing his workload from the previous few days and taking part in team drills.

After practice Coach Sean Payton stressed the importance of the final preseason game for players even if they don’t end up on the Saints’ final 53.

“It’s a final look,” Payton said. “You’re putting your product out there for all the other teams.”

Payton also said receiver Cameron Meredith will get some playing time Thursday night as he also rehabs his way back from injury.

The same goes for the team’s first-round draft choice Marcus Davenport, who Payton says looked pretty alright in his first NFL action last Saturday.

“He had some good plays,” Payton said. “There’s some things he’s got to correct. His pad level was high, which isn’t that unusual in his first game. But he was active on a handful of plays. So it’ll be another good week for him.”

The Saints will have some hard choices to make after Thursday night when they cut the roster down to 53 before the regular season opener. The Black and Gold host the Los Angeles Rams Thursday night on WWL. Coverage starts that afternoon at 3.
