The offense of the Saints hasn’t looked the same the past few weeks, and it’s not because Drew Brees isn’t under center. Penalties that the offensive line has racked up have handicapped Teddy Bridgewater’s ability to lead the team down the field.  Is it because the o-line is getting used to a new QB?

“It’s not a chemistry issue, said coach Sean Payton on his Wednesday conference call.  “Chemistry would be offsides, false starts. Holding and the things that we’re seeing, that’s a technique issue.”

This is Dan Rouschar’s 3rd year as the Saints o-line coach and he has been a part of Payton’s staff since 2013. His unit has racked up 12 holding calls over the 1st four games which is very uncharacteristic for the Black & Gold. And, there isn’t just one person to blame, it’s been the whole group.

Saints holding penalties along the offensive line:

G Andrus Peat (1)

T Ryan Ramczyk (2)

C Erik McCoy (2)

T Terron Armstead (2)

C/G Will Clapp (2)

G Larry Warford (3)

“We’re in the NFL here,” explained Payton. “In other words, we need to be able to get off on the snap-count and execute without putting ourselves back in 3 out of our 12 drives a game. It’s been crazy, it’s been ridiculous honestly.”
