Saints practice report: Defense wins the day in a downpour

The day started out as a typical Louisiana summer scorcher. A large rain cloud found its way to Saints training camp, causing a little chaos; but he team worked through it.

Black and Gold a little Black and Blue

WR Travin Dural and center Cameron Tom did not participate after leaving yesterday’s practice. Rookie safety Kamrin Moore was also not taking part in any drills. Later on in practice, TE Benjamin Watson, RB Shane Vereen and 1st round draft pick Marcus Davenport left early accompanied by a trainer.

Defense hungry for turnovers

From start to finish it was the defense's day today. Before the rain even started to come down the unit flexed its muscles during 7-on 7. Drew Brees was 0-4 at one point with an interception; and the defense started talking trash, saying they were going to shut him out. That didn’t happen as Brees completed his final throw. Safety Kurt Coleman hauled in a pass that went off Tommylee Lewis' hands for an INT. Linebackers Demario Davis, Alex Anzalone and Craig Robertson also got into the mix, picking off passes today. Nate Stupar drew some ohhhs and ahhhs after forcing a fumble on RB Terrance West. The linebacker then dove head first toward the sideline in celebration.

New suitor on The Bachelor: punt return edition

You can toss Austin Carr’s name into the punt return mix as the wide receiver made his debut there today. Ted Ginn Jr., Tommylee Lewis, Alvin Kamara and rookie Boston Scott also fielded punts. There were no muffs or issues from any of the guys today.
