Michael Thomas says Saints players don’t need to be superheroes with Brees down

Drew Brees is obviously a vital piece to the Saints success, but to think he is the only reason the team wins is in insult to the rest of the guys on the roster. Now, there is no denying things are going to be a whole lot tougher without Brees while he recovers from thumb surgery, but the locker room looks at it as they have to keep it together and hold things down until their leader is healthy again.

“We just have to be ourselves, we don’t have to be any different then what we’re been doing,” said wide receiver Michael Thomas. “We just have to keep adding value and find ways to put points on the board and score and do our job and make explosive plays.  It’s not really like, oh now Drew is down, that oh you guys have to be some superhero. No, we just have to be our self and do our job and execute our play and our assignment to the best of our ability, and we’ll be fine.”

The 1-1 Saints are entering week 3’s match-up in Seattle against the 2-0 Seahawks, with two guys trying to do the job that Brees does. Coach Sean Payton has not named Teddy Bridgewater or Taysom Hill the team’s starting signal caller, only saying they are approaching this game with two QBs. Thomas has 100% confidence in Teddy and Taysom leading the offensive attack.

“They're two great, talented individuals, who can do a lot with the ball in their hands,” explained Can’t Guard Mike. “They’ve been able to be mentored and follow a guy like Drew Brees and watch the way he prepares and how he handles the game. So, I feel that’s a benefit for both of them.”

The offense wasn’t the same though without Brees in the lineup after he got hurt against the Rams. They did not get into the endzone for only the fourth time during the Sean Payton era.  The issues were far from being put solely on the QB position though; drops and penalties stifled any positive momentum the Saints seemed to build.

“We’re just eager to respond,” Thomas said. “Correct our mistakes and get out there and play Saints football, play tighter and play for one another.”

It’s another 3:25pm kickoff for the Black & Gold Sunday on WWL Saints radio. Pregame coverage will start at 11am with Acadian Windows “FANS FIRST TAKE”, followed by the Bud Light “COUNTDOWN to KICKOFF” at 1:30pm.
