LSU is the 3 seed in the East Region and will face #6 Maryland in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday at 11:10am Central Time after the Terrapins took down Belmont 99-97.

The Tigers' trend of getting off to fast starts then struggling down the stretch continued in their win over Yale.  The Bayou Bengals jumped out 9-0 against the Bulldogs and were up by 16 at the half. But, Yale went on a run to make things interesting down the stretch and LSU ended up with a little too close for comfort 79-74 victory when they probably should have won by 20.

"We're almost better when we're down," assistant coach Greg Heiar said. "But we'll get better."

They'll need to be better against Maryland who loves to clean the glass. The Terps own the 7th best rebound margin in the country as they have good size and athleticism.  They do however struggle with turnovers and do not get many steals.

Sophomore Bruno Fernando is a big piece for Maryland and a legit NBA prospect. The forward's 20 double-doubles rank seventh in the nation and he leads the Big Ten 62% from the field. Fellow sophomore Anthony Cowan ranks among the conference leaders in assists, scoring, and is reliable at the foul line making 82% of his free throws.

Even with the "distraction" of head coach Will Wade being suspended, LSU has enough talent to beat anyone in the country though.  Just ask Sir Charles Barkley:
