The Who Dat Nation is still recovering from the rollercoaster ride on Monday night football, but that’s in the Saints rearview mirror. The team has a short week to get ready for a road trip to Los Angeles where they will take on a 1-0 Rams team that is also expected to be fighting for the #1 seed in the NFC this year.

“They are a real good football team, obviously,” said Coach Sean Payton Wednesday morning. “They are a team that requires a lot of preparation to handle. The movements and some of the motions offensively. And, then defensively they present a lot of problems with their front and their ability to cover and turn the ball over.”

The Rams already knocked off one team from the NFC South by eking out a 30-27 victory in Carolina in their season opener.  Quarterback Jared Goff did not have a solid 1st outing, completing just 23 of his 39 passes for 186 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT.  The Rams ground game carried them though.  Malcolm Brown scored twice and totaled 53 yards, while Todd Gurley produced 97 yards on just 14 carries; good for 6.9 yards per carry. Stopping the run was an issue for New Orleans in the opener as the Texans ripped off 7.8 yards per carry Monday night.

The Black & Gold’s offensive line was stellar though.  Houston managed to sack Drew Brees just once and J.J. Watt was held without a single statistic on the night. They’ll get another massive test Sunday against Aaron Donald.

“He extremely athletic and active, said Payton about the defensive tackle. “He’s very smart. He can get on an edge. He can key and diagnose very quickly. All the things you look for in someone playing that three-technique position.”

Donald isn’t the only big name on the Rams D. Gone is Ndamukong Suh, but they still have Michael Brockers, Dante Fowler Jr, Marcus Peters, Aquib Talib and added Clay Matthews Jr this offseason.

Kickoff in LA is at 3:25pm Sunday on WWL Saints radio
