The 4th quarter of the NFL season begins with an important NFC match-up in the Mercedes Benz Superdome Sunday at noon.  The 10-2 Saints host the 10-2 49ers with the winner getting a leg-up in the race for the top seed in the conference.

“I feel like there is a lot that we have to improve on in a short amount of time,” said Saints head coach Sean Payton.

He says a short amount of time because there are just four games remaining in the regular season. The next 2 are at home vs San Fran then Indianapolis, before going on the road to close things out in Tennessee and Carolina.

Right now, the Saints are in second place in the NFC behind the Niners, but that would change if the Seahawks win at home tonight on MNF against the Vikings. Seattle would take over the top spot in the NFC West.  Then, since New Orleans got a victory in Seattle back in week 4, the Black & Gold would own the #1 position in the in the NFC, while San Fran would fall all the way down to a wild card spot.

A glaring issue the Saints will be looking to correct this week in practice is their on-side kick recovery unit. They allowed the Falcons to recover two on-side kicks on Thanksgiving and did the same in Chicago a few weeks back.

“We’re going to have to fix that obviously,” said Coach Payton. “That will cost you a game. It almost cost us a game the other day. We’ll do whatever it takes to get that corrected and look closely at what we’re doing and who’s doing it.”

Las Vegas thinks Sunday’s match-up is going to be a tight one.  The Saints are 3 point home favorites over the 49ers.
