Heading into training camp the WWL sports crew likes to select an undrafted "dark-horse" who they think has the best chance at making the Saints roster.  Some of this year's picks were tight end Dan Arnold, linebacker Colton Jumper and quarterback J.T. Barrett. Nobody can claim they knew a thing about Keith Kirkwood, but the wide receiver has made us take notice and the entire flock of media at Saints practice now knows who #18 is now.

With of the other Black & Gold receivers banged up, Kirkwood has seen some more reps than maybe expected. His first love is actually basketball, and didn't even start playing football until his senior year in high school.  The 6ft3, 210 pounder out of Temple has a positive outlook as he works on adapting to the NFL.

"I think I've come a long way. Just learning the playbook, trying to be flexible playing all different type of  positions on the field.  Trying to learn special teams as much as I can and just come out here and take it day by day, rep by rep, and moment by moment."

Camp hasn't come easy for Kirkwood. There have been days when he has struggled with drops and lining up properly, but maintains a professional and mature attitude.

"I've got to bounce back from it, I can let that dwell on me.  Just come back and make a play off the next rep.  If I look back on what I've done mistakenly, it's going to dwell on me and I am not going to have a good practice. You just have to leave that behind you and keep moving forward."

The Saints liked what they saw from Kirkwood's final 2 years in college.  He racked up a combined 87 catches for 1,319 yards and 11 TDs in his junior and senior seasons.  In the preseason opener in Jacksonville he hauled in both passes thrown his way at totaled 17 yards. Now heading into exhibition game 2 against the Cardinals on Friday, Kirkwood is past those first game jitters and wants to put on a show for the Who Dat Nation.

"I'm very excited to be in the Superdome, at home in front of our fans. Its just going to be exciting and I'm ready to go off and  go out with a bang"
