A win Sunday clinches the division

It’s week 14 in the NFL and after back-to-back prime time games on a Thursday, the Saints are back to a “normal” week taking on the Buccaneers at noon on Sunday.  Since winning in the Superdome in the season opener Tampa’s season has gone in a much different direction than New Orleans.  The Bucs have gone back & forth between starting quarterbacks and that inconsistency has helped lead to a 5-7 record.

On the other hand, the Saints grew stronger after a stunning 48-40 week 1 loss in the Superdome. They went on to churn out 10 straight victories which was halted in Dallas last time out. But, a win in Tampa would clinch the NFC South for a 2nd straight season. That feat has never been done in franchise history.

“I think the most important thing is this team in front of us, this game in front of us, and finding a way to get to 11 period,” said Coach Sean Payton about the importance of earning a victory on Sunday. “Let's get to 11. And, they're all smart enough to know that hey you're chasing other things that can enhance your possible opportunities down the road. It's that simple. So the focus is really getting to 11 this week, and how do we do that?”

Obviously, Tampa Bay is in the South so the threat of rain is always a possibility. Raymond James Stadium is not a dome which means there is a chance it could be a sloppy, muddy mess.

“Well, it doesn't look like it's going to rain, it's going to rain, “said Payton. “It's a 95 percent chance of rain. There'll be some wind; 10 to 12 miles an hour. I think the footing is going to be important relative to the shoes that we're wearing. So we're just understanding ball security and the conditions.”

The Saints are 14-9 in Tampa all-time.  They have lost their last 2 match-ups against the Buccaneers though and the Bucs are a team that may be down in the standings but are coming into the game eyeing a season sweep as they are riding a 2 game win streak.
