Pelicans poised to be buyers, not sellers, at trade deadline

Don't necessarily put a lot of stock in the Twitter rumors about pieces being dealt from the Pelicans.

Despite teams reportedly having interest in the veterans on the Pelicans roster, particularly guard Jrue Holiday, Pelicans executive vice president David Griffin has repeatedly said Holiday is not on the trading block. And Radio.com NBA analyst Ryan McDonogh, a former NBA general manager in his own right, says there's much more to be gained for the Pels from sticking with their current roster and perhaps even adding a veteran for a run at the postseason.

"They have a lot of young talent on the roster," McDonogh said. "It's not like they necessarily need a lot more young players. So I think overall they look ahead and say it would be more meaningful for [their] young guys, starting with Zion [Williamson] but including Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and others to play meaningful basketball games down the stretch whether [they] ultimately make the playoffs or not."

The NBA trade deadline is Thursday. You can hear the full audio of McDonogh's interview on WWL's Sports Talk by clicking the podcast link.
