Brees: Connection with Cook already taking shape for Saints

Saints quarterback Drew Brees has once again been a commanding presence on the field during the team's training camp, just as he has been for the past 13 seasons. As has often been the case for Brees in the Big Easy, he's got some new weapons to acclimate into Coach Sean Payton's system, and one newcomer who has made a big impression has been free agent tight end Jared Cook.

"I've been really impressed with Jared," Brees said. "He's obviously a very talented guy. Really big frame, runs extremely well. You can tell he's a savvy veteran player. He's played a lot of football. He understands where to be on the field in a lot of places. He knows how to separate. Obviously, he's got long legs, long arms. He can separate and go up and high-point the ball really well. He does a lot of little things in the intermediate passing game really well. They just require feel and experience, and you can tell he's got it. I've just been really impressed with him. I think he's picked up the offense really well."

Brees made the comments on WWL Radio on the Monday afternoon edition of Sports Talk. Over the course of 14 minutes, he also gave his first impressions of the Pelicans' #1 draft-pick Zion Williamson, his expectations for the Saints' young receiving corps, and discussed the upcoming season of his Football N' America youth flag football league.
