Pelicans will sit Anthony Davis against Lakers

Anthony Davis wants to play for the Lakers.  He won't be allowed to play against them.

The New Orleans Pelicans announced that Davis will be held out of their game against Los Angeles tonight in the Smoothie King Center.  The decision was expected as the team had previously indicated it would rest Davis on the second day of back-to-back games.  The Pelicans were defeated by the Pacers 126-11 yesterday in Indiana.

The NBA has been compelling the Pelicans to play Davis, despite their objections.  The league, nor Davis, likely has much standing to fight the decision as many teams regularly rest their stars during the second game of back-to-back contests.  This is likely how the Pelicans will handle Davis' playing time the rest of the season: play him token minutes to appease the league while sitting him at every opportunity.

The Pelicans take on the Lakers tonight at 6:00 p.m. in New Orleans.
