LSU baseball is headed out west for the regional round of the NCAA tournament in the Corvallis, Oregon. The NCAA selection committee didn't do the Tigers any favors sending them over 2,000 miles away from Baton Rouge.

LSU coach Paul Mainieri agrees on the lack of favors from the selection committee, but says his team has to play the hand they were given.

"You don't control those things. You just deal with realities of life.  We're going to fly out there and compete as hard as we can" Mainieri said.

LSU is the No. 2 seed in the regional and will play No. 3 seed San Diego State on Friday at 3pm.  This might be a regional hosted by Oregon State, but Mainieri reminds his team that's not the opponent the Tigers should focus on right now.

"We don't play Oregon State next we play San Diego State, and we're focusing on that game."

Aside from taking on SDSU and Oregon State in this regional round, the Tigers are going to battle another opponent -- the Pacific Northwest weather.  Mainieri even joked that he didn't know where Corvallis, Oregon was.

"They are calling for temperatures between 40-60 degrees, it rains a lot so there is going to be a lot of adjustments we're going to have to make and that's ok that's all part of it," added Mainieri.

Last week at this time nobody was thinking about a No. 2 seed in the NCAA baseball tournament for LS. After a strong run in the SEC conference tournament, that's the reality.  Can the Tigers shock the world like they did in Hoover this past week and knock off Oregon State?  We'll start to get answers beginning Friday at 3pm when they take on the Aztecs of San Diego State.
