It's not all doom-and-gloom for LSU basketball.

The Tigers received a much needed boost to their 2019 recruiting class with the commitment from five-star forward Trendon Watford on Monday.   Watford, the No. 17 ranked recruit in the country according to 247Sports, chose to play at LSU over Memphis, Indiana, and Alabama.   Watford is from Alabama and his brother played at Indiana, leading many to believe he would want to play at one of those programs.

Watford has long been thought to be heading to LSU, but the cloud hanging over the program in regards to the Will Wade wiretap situation left many wondering if Watford was re-evaluating a possible commitment to the Tigers.  It took until the 11th-hour of the recruiting cycle, but Watford finally did choose LSU.

Many are comparing Watford, who stands at 6'9", to outgoing LSU freshman Naz Reid.  That's not quite an accurate comparison, as Watford has better ball handling skills and more versatility in the frontcourt.  What is comparable is Watford's projection as a one-and-done player, as most McDonald's All-American's are.  Reid played one season at LSU before declaring for the NBA Draft.

LSU now has the No. 32 ranked recruiting class according to 247Sports.
