LISTEN: Deuce reacts to the Saints 29-19 loss to the Vikings

It was a frustrating loss last night for the New Orleans Saints as they got pillaged by the Vikings 29-19 in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated.

"Let's just say it wasn't the start (to the season) that you want," said WWL resident pro Deuce McAllister.

That may be an understatement.  Fans were up in arms across social media throughout the second half of the game and into the night, wondering if the team was any better than the one they saw go 7-9 for the past three consecutive seasons.

Deuce pointed to a few things besides the porous defense that stood out to him.  First, he thought the inability of the offense to score touchdowns was key in this loss.

"You have the opportunity to score some touchdowns in the red zone and you don't do it," he lamented.  "Particularily the first four times you go in you end up kicking four field goals."

Perhaps even more surprising was the lack of third down success by the offense, a unit that has finished first in the NFL in that category for the past three seasons.  Last night the Saints converted only 4/11 third downs (36%) while allowing the Vikings to convert a staggering nine of 14 attemps, good for 62%.

"Not only are you allowing them to convert at a very very high rate, but even your third down offense you weren't able to convert," Deuce said.

There's not much time for the Saints to dwell on this loss as the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots visit New Orleans on Sunday.  The Saints will need to regroup or face an 0-2 start to the season yet again.

"Short week, you have an opportunity to play this Sunday," Deuce said.  "They have a lot to clean up whether it's on the back end or on the offensive side of the football, but they have another opportunity to do so."

We'll see just how much gets cleaned up come high noon on Sunday in the Superdome.
