The New Orleans Pelicans blasted the Houston Rockets 131-112 in their season opener last night, and they got the usual stellar performance out of star forward Anthony Davis, who had 32 points, 16 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 blocks, and 3 steals.   This is nothing new for Davis, who had the best season of his career last year en-route to a third place finish in MVP voting along with earning a spot on the NBA All-Defensive 1st Team.

The season is just a couple of days old, but Davis-for-MVP hype machine is already revving up thanks to one of the msot prominent voices around the NBA.  Charles Barkley, a former MVP himself and current member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, said on his 'Inside the NBA' show on TNT that Davis is "the second best basketball player in the world" and that nothing would change his mind about that.

Barkely also predicted that Davis would win league MVP this season, not a far fetched prediction considering Davis is coming off a season where he was one of three finalists for the award.

Do you agree with Barkley?  Sound off with me tonight on "The Last Lap", 8:00-11pm on WWL 105.3fm/870am and the Radio.com app!
