Gin Blossoms lead singer Robin Wilson sits down with Scoot

The Gin Blossoms played to a large crowd at the House of Blues Thursday night.

Prior to their set, Gin Blossoms lead singer Robin Wilson sat down with Scoot and discussed the band’s success, struggles and even joked about a bet Scoot made with Wilson that he was never able to make good on.

The band achieved massive success in the 90’s with hits like “Hey Jealousy” and “Found Out About You.” Wilson said the success was was “dizzying.”

“It was exciting,” he said. “It was exhausting because we were constantly on the road and we were in that van for a year and a half. We knew that we were getting airplay and that things were starting to happen but we didn’t realize how many records we were gonna sell.

“All of our heroes were bands like The Smithereens and the replacements. So, we never expected to achieve commercial success beyond what those kinds of bands achieved and it was dizzying. It’s really only with the perspective of time that we realize how big we were. A lot of it was happening so fast.”
