Another win for the Saints D, and Tate' terrific day

August 01, 2018 - 2:20 pm

Following a day off, Saints head coach Sean Payton opted to move today’s practice inside, which meant is was closed to the fans. He said that the field was still a bit wet from yesterday’s showers and was also a good opportunity to change things up.

Transaction time

Wide receivers Eldridge Massington and Josh Smith were waived with injuries.  The team has signed WRs Michael Floyd and Brandon Tate along with guard Don Barclay. Also, former LSU Tiger Travin Dural will be heading to injured reserve while tight end Michael Hoomanawanui has come off the physically unable to perform list and was practicing today.

Not practicing

TE Benjamin Watson, RB Shane Vereen, C Cameron Tom, DE Marcus Davenport & DB Kamrin Moore all did not participate in today’s session. Watson, Vereen and Davenport left Monday’s practice early. In case you didn’t know, Coach will not talk about any injuries until the regular season.

The defense won another day of practice and pressure was prevalent throughout. Safety Vonn Bell timed up 2 blitzes for would be sacks. There would have been around 6 to 7 QB take downs today.  Also of note safety Kurt Coleman had a nice pass break-up on QB Drew Brees.

Tate terrific day 1

No first day jitters or problems getting acclimated in the offense for Brandon Tate. He made a nice catch over the middle and tossed a defender for a big gain. The JT Barrett had his best pass of camp to Tate down the sideline. He beat rookie Natrell Jamerosn. As for the other new addition Michael Floyd; I cant recall him having a catch his first day.
