Did President Trump's re-do put the Putin issue to rest for you?  Or, was it a re-oops?

Check out some of Newell Normand's HOT TAKES:

  • This Trump "would/wouldn't mishap" played out as some serious political drama.  Some described the Trump/Putin Helsinki Summit & aftermath as treasonous, despicable, apocalyptic even.  To me, it was a single press conference where President Trump did not do well.
  • It seems the President always kind of leaves it open.  On one hand, he says he accepts the intelligence community's conclusion that Russia meddled in the 2016 elections.  Then, he includes the caveat:  "it could be other people."
  • Why can't President Trump just leave the statement alone?  It's like he always has to have an out.
  • It was almost as if he didn't want to be too strong against Putin, like he didn't want to be offensive.  This was a defining moment, sitting down with Putin.  The President really believes that a lot can be accomplished by entering into these conversations, choosing diplomacy over conflict.
  • President Obama had his mishap when he was caught on a hot mic telling Vladimir Putin that he'd had more discretion after the elections.  It was the same issue then.
  • President Trump was also criticized for his comments to Tucker Carlson.  He said that he wasn't sure about spending American lives and dollars to defend a country like Montenegro, a small country that's aggressive towards Russia.  I think a lot of people feel that way.
  • I know what Trump is trying to do and say when he's trying to say it, but there is a bit of puffing up that goes with it.  I think that's where he missteps.  He's got this uncanny ability of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory on any number of issues.
  • Another thing I find interesting is people saying the intelligence community will be in an uproar.  The intelligence community has been in conflict with almost every elected president on some issue during their administration.
