Appropriate reverence for our former President?  Absolutely!  Why?  Because 41 mattered.  For the obvious reasons, President George H. W. Bush was the leader of the United States and the free world.  More importantly, 41 lived a storied life and accomplished so much.

There were so many opportunities to highlight his accomplishments, but George H. W. Bush would never do that.  This 41st President’s humility is the cornerstone for the reverence we’re witnessing today.  41 never viewed himself as the center of any universe, and as such, his diplomatic approach, which led to innumerable achievements, was both honored and respected by so many world leaders, who expressed a strong desire to stand by his side.

George H. W. Bush understood the notion of the long game and the importance of that.  Hence, our 41st President was able to achieve significant domestic policy as well.  In my view, no domestic there was more important than his “Points of Light Movement.”

President Bush describe this movement as, “Points of Light are the Soul of America.”   They are ordinary people, who reach beyond themselves to touch the lives of those in need, bringing hope and opportunity, care and friendship.  By giving so generously of themselves, these remarkable individuals show us not only what is best in our heritage, but what all of us are called to become.”

True to form, our 41st President, George H. W. Bush, made it about everyone else, and simply reminded each of us that we all matte!  I’ll always thing of him as a one term President, who leaves so many points of light that will shine forever!
