Bushrod wants Saints to land Suh

A major topic of conversation among the Who Dat Nation since last week has been whether the Saints can land defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh… and whether they should.

Offensive tackle Jermon Bushrod, who recently inked a contract to return to New Orleans after five seasons away, played with Suh as a member of the Miami Dolphins. During an appearance on WWL Radio Tuesday afternoon, he told Bobby Hebert and Kristian Garic that if you’re worried about Suh being the proverbial cancer in the locker room, those concerns are unfounded.

“I think he’s a good teammate,” Bushrod said of Suh. “He brings a lot to the game. He takes practice, he takes his game serious. I had the opportunity to go up against him every day in practice. I had the tough task of blocking him every day, so I know what he brings. I see the way he interacts with the young defensive linemen to bring them up to speed. He cares. He cares about winning. He cares about being successful. He was a good player to have, a good person to have in Miami.”

Bushrod also offered that he’s trying to help recruit the dominant defensive tackle to New Orleans.

“Yeah, I texted him,” Bushrod said. “I’m trying to feel his situation out, see what he’s doing. I’m just trying to tell him, come on down to New Orleans, man. Let’s get this trophy. I want another one. He needs his first one.”

Bushrod also addressed how Suh’s penchant for on-field aggression, sometimes after the whistle, has clouded his reputation off the field.

“Some of the things I can understand where the reputation comes,” Bushrod said. “but I’ve been with him the last couple of years. I see how he is around his teammates. I enjoyed him as a teammate. I enjoyed getting to know him off the field, to see how smart and cerebral a person he is. I’m appreciative of our friendship, and it’d be nice if we could be teammates again.”

Suh visited the Tennessee Titans and the Los Angeles Rams after leaving New Orleans, and is expected to make his decision soon. You can hear the full audio of Jermon Bushrod’s appearance on Sports Talk by clicking the podcast link.
