LSU LB Devon White is a consensus first round pick, if he declares early for the NFL Draft, thus forgoing his senior season at LSU.  Only White and his close family circle can definitively say what his plans are, but the All American linebacker is sounding like he might be back with the Tigers next season.  “I want to make sure I leave this place better than when I found it.  Such as my legacy, who I stand for and what type of person I want to be.  I want everything done the right way.  I don’t know if I’ve reached that limit yet,” White said.  It’s risk versus reward at this point for White.

The risk is returning to LSU for his senior season, and passing up millions in the NFL.  What if he has a significant injury next season?  That could affect White’s draft stock.  However, the reward could be even greater.  What if Devon White returns for his senior season and wins a national title with the Tigers?  That certainly would boost his already impressive NFL Draft stock, perhaps into the top 10 in 2020.

White has inspiring goals.  “I want to be the greatest linebacker ever at LSU.  I think it’s something I’m still chasing at this point,” White said with a big grin.  When Devon White stepped on campus three years ago, the top goal was the ultimate prize for the Purple & Gold.  “All my aspirations were to win a championship, and we still haven’t won a championship.  That weighs a lot on my heart.  I want to bring a championship to the great state of Louisiana,” White added.

Devon White is motivated by the image of former LSU quarterback Matt Flynn kissing the 2007 LSU national championship trophy.  “Why can’t that be me,” he asks, then answers. “It can be me with a lot of hard work.”

White was given high praise by LSU head coach Ed Orgeron, when he compared Devon to some remarkable linebackers he’s coached in the past. “I’ve been a part of Ray Lewis.  I’ve been a part of Patrick Willis, and he’s right there in that group.  He’s one of the best I’ve ever been a part of,” said a proud Coach O.  Ray Lewis!  Ray “freaking” Lewis!  That’s a hall of fame linebacker White’s being compared to.

Whatever the decision Devon White makes, it will be the right one.  He sounds like a guy who is looking to return to LSU for some unfinished business.
