Saints first round draft pick DE Marcus Davenport and six other draft picks from the 2018 draft class have been signed to contracts according to General Manager Mickey Loomis in a statement released by the team.  4th round draft pick OT Rick Leonard, DB Natrell Jamerson, DB Kamrin Moore, RB Boston Scott, and OL Will Clapp have all agreed to terms with the Saints. 3rd round pick Tre'Quan Smith remains the lone unsigned draft pick as it stands right now. Need not to worry, he'll sign soon, if not by the end of the rookie camp that takes place this weekend.

This isn't a surprise, with the rookie wage scale a part of the CBA.  Deals are able to get done so much easier in today's NFL.  The Saints traded up in the draft from 27 to 14 to grab the talented UTSA pass rusher in Marcus Davenport.  His deal is four years, with a fifth year team option; which is standard in the NFL.

The other value that people haven't talked about enough with the decision to trade up for Davenport is the 5th year option.  Standard rookie deals in the NFL for first round draft picks are 4 years with a 5th year option.  If the Saints hit on Davenport they can decide to pick up the fifth year option at a much cheaper rate, than if he were to hit free agency.

The Saints will hold a three day rookie mini camp this weekend at the teams training facility this weekend. Former LSU Tiger Rickey Jefferson defensive back, and former Saints Defensive Tackle Tyrunn Walker will also be a part of the camp this weekend.  Veterans can participate in rookie camp if they meet certain requirements.
