LSU has offered former Saints assistant Bill Johnson a defensive line coaching position, according to a report from the advocate.

The one-year deal is pending, until a background check can be completed accordign to the report. LSU’s current defensive line coach Dennis Johnson suffered a knee injury playing pickup basketball over the summer, preventing him from physically coaching the Tigers defensive line in practice and games.

Bill Johnson coached the Saints defensive line from 2009 to 2016 and spent the last two seasons coaching the same position group with the Los Angeles Rams.  Johnson, and LSU coach Ed Orgeron have close coaching ties dating back to their time together as graduate assistants at Northwestern state.

“He’s like Coach O’s mentor,” WWL's Bobby Hebert said.
