Hebert: What wall? The Saints should have pep in their steps with no more two-a-day practices

Saints coach Sean Payton said the team has hit a wall two weeks into training camp.  The” Cajun Cannon” Bobby Hebert rolls his eyes at that notion.

“I don’t understand how,” a perplexed Hebert explained. “They’re only practicing one time a day”

Obviously, Hebert is not a fan of today’s CBA-mandated one practice a day format.

Here’s a few other things noticed in Sunday’s practice.

Ball hawk:  Safety Marcus Williams flashed some ball skills today collecting an interception from Drew Brees after a ball bounced out of the arms of Ted Ginn Jr.  and into the hands of Williams.

“Marcus Williams had one of his better practices of camp so far.  He was around the ball a lot today,” Hebert said.

Not so much a ball hawk:  Veteran cornerback Ken Crawley had a chance for an interception but dropped the pass.

“He’s got to make those plays given the position he’s in — fighting for a roster spot,” Hebert said.

High motor:  Defensive end Trey Hendrickson has been disruptive during camp this year, and it’s about time said the Cannon.

“We need him to have that high motor,” Hebert said. “He was the only one to even hit the Vikings QBs in the preseason opener. He had a sack against Drew Brees on a nice outside pass rush.”

Two-minute drill: “Drew was surgical in the two-minute situation in practice. You could see the chemistry brewing with Brees and wide receiver Mike Thomas and other wide receivers as he sliced up the Saints defense” Hebert said.

Emmanuel Butler: “They are counting on him. It’s almost like you are breaking in a thoroughbred. The trainers and coaching staff need to make sure he’s ready to go and not push through injuries and rush back on the field” Hebert said of Butler.  “Drew has confidence in him; you can see how much trust he has from Brees.  He looks like he’s ready to roll.”

The Saints are back on the practice tomorrow ahead of an off day Tuesday before they travel to Los Angeles, Wednesday for two joint practices with the Chargers at the end of the week.
