The Who Dat Nation has waited with baited breath for nearly a month for Drew Brees’ decision about the upcoming season.  Will the Saints legendary quarterback retire or sign up for another year?  My gut tells me Drew’s back, but you just never know.  Here is a list of five reasons Brees should return for another season.

  1. Drew Brees is still playing at a high level.  He looked ordinary in the playoff loss to the Vikings, but so did a lot of Saints players.  Brees was named “Offensive Player of the Month” in December, so he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.  He might not be able to carry the team week in and week out, but Drew’s got game & all the records to prove it.

  1. The championship window is still open for the Saints.  Brees is well aware the Saints still have a championship caliber roster.  He can’t walk away from the possibility that he could lead the Saints to another Super Bowl victory.  Think about how that would propel his a Hall of Fame legacy.  Win another Lombardi and he’ll always be mentioned as one of the NFL’s all-time great quarterbacks.

  1.  Tom Brady still plans to play this season.   As long as Brady is in the game and nipping at the heels of Brees’ all-time passing records, he will play.  Without a second Super Bowl win, Drew Brees needs those records to bolster his standing in NFL history.  Like it or not, it’s a factor.

  1. Drew Brees is too competitive to call it quits now.  Brees knows he can still play and I have a hard time believing that he would be ok sitting at home watching games on TV, knowing he can still play at a level higher than many quarterbacks still in the league.

  1. Brees is relatively healthy for a 41 year old QB.  Aside from his shoulder injury that ultimately landed him in New Orleans, Brees hasn’t had to rehab a major injury in New Orleans.  Sure he missed five games last season with a thumb injury, but that isn’t considered a major injury.

Eventually Drew Brees’ storied Hall of Fame career will come to a close.  Just not this season.  I expect to hear an answer from Brees about his future in the coming week to ten days.  One more year!  One more year!
