Beating a team four straight times in the NFL is incredibly difficult.  However, it is possible, and Saints color analyst Deuce McAllister points out a couple of areas the Saints have to win in order make it four in a row over the Carolina Panthers on Monday night football.

  1.  Stop Christian McCaffrey:   “He’s pretty much their biggest threat on offense both in the passing game and the running game,” said the Saints all-time leading rusher.  The Saints have the league’s best rushing defense, and have done a really good job of making teams one dimensional this season. “If he gets going, it’s going to be a long day for the Saints,” McAllister explained.
  2. Stay patient with your rushing attack:  The Panthers are really solid against the run, with the NFL’s seventh best run defense.  “Even if it’s not working early on, Sean (Payton) has to stay with the run, and eventually they can pop off a couple of big runs in the second half.  If you get too cute here in the passing game, you can get yourself in trouble with the Panthers,” added Deuce.
  3. Panthers are wounded:  Carolina has lost five straight games after starting the season 6 and 2.  “This is a game where you can really crush the confidence of the Panthers early.  They’ll be fired up, and if things go their way early in the game, they will stay energized.  If you jump on them early, they’re going to lose confidence quickly,” McAllister said.   Jobs are potentially on the line in Charlotte, in particular for head coach Ron Rivera. McAllister stresses that the Black & Gold should expect Carolina to come hard and leave it all on the field.
