Go Bowling 400 Preview and Fantasy NASCAR Lineup

Tim Zimmer

The NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series goes to Kansas Speedway this Saturday for the Go Bowling 400. Two drivers who are still looking for their first win in the 2017 season, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch, were last year’s winners in the two cup races in Kansas.

The Go Bowling 400 will feature a 1.5 mile asphalt track, which includes 80 laps in stages 1 & 2, then 107 laps in the final stage. Ryan Blaney will start up front as the pole winner, and joining him will be another Ford driver in Joey Logano.

The Vegas favorite and one of my options this week in fantasy NASCAR is Martin Truex Jr., who comes in as an 11/2 favorite. Following him is the #4 Kevin Harvick and #42 Kyle Larson, who both have 6/1 odds to earn the checkered flag this Saturday night.

Truex Jr., who comes in as the favorite, is a no-brainer due to his dominance on the 1.5 mile tracks going back to last season. Three of his last five wins have been on 1.5 mile tracks including a win in Las Vegas back in March. He’ll be my pick to lead the most laps in the race and will be a contender at the finish.

Another driver to keep your eye on is local favorite Clint Bowyer. Born in Emporia, Kansas, Bowyer will have the home crowd support and comes in on hot streak. The #14 car has finished in the top 15 six in straight races including a second place finish in Bristol. Bowyer will start 30th due to not being able to pass inspections during qualifying.
My pick to win the race, Kevin Harvick, will start 8th and has been the most dominant driver going back to the last seven races in Kansas Speedway. Harvick has two wins and three 2nd place finishes in the last seven races at this race track.

Some other drivers who should perform well Saturday night include last week’s Talladega winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who starts 4th. Look for the Daytona 500 winner Kurt Busch to finish in the top 10. In two of the three intermediate track races this year, Kurt Busch has two top 10 finishes. Finally, coming in with 30/1 odds Dale Earnhardt Jr would be my pick outside of the favorites to make some noise. The #88 car has been disappointing so far in 2017 but looked fast in practice. He’ll start 33rd due to not qualifying.
