Demario Davis has a Garnder Minshew II T-Shirt hanging in his locker.

It would seem odd that Davis would proudly display a t-shirt of the quarterback he is facing this week, but much like many Jacksonville Jaguar fans the Saints linebacker is swept up in the Minshew Mania.

“I’m a huge fan of Gardner Minshew,” he said. “We went to the same high school, by the way, it’s not too often you see two Brandon (Miss.) high school alums playing head-to-head.

“It don’t happen much and for him to be a starting quarterback in the NFL is huge. So, the city of Brandon, and all of Rankin County, is really excited right now.”

Minshew, a rookie out of Washington State, came on in relief for injured starting quarterback Nick Foles in the Jaguars regular season opener. He’s gone 2-2 as starter since.

“I’m happy for him,” Davis said. “I’m happy for the success he’s had. I think he’s done an incredible job of doing what the coaches have asked him too. He was thrown in the fire and he’s making good on it.”

Minshew has thrown for 1,279 yards and nine touchdowns with just one interception.

Jaguars head coach Doug Marronne said that Minshew’s play this season has been great considering the limited work he got with the first unit.

“(He) just has a confidence about himself, but it's not a cockiness,” Marrone said. “He has an unbelievable work ethic and I think a lot of things kind of, it's crazy on the outside (with the perception), people with the mustache and all that other stuff. But, he's a really focused individual when he's in this building.”
