Heisman trophy candidate and Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was carted off of the field in the first half of the No. 5 Crimson Tide's game against Mississippi State.

Tagovailoa was tackled attempting a pass in the second quarter and was tended to by the team's medical staff before being helped to a cart and driven off the field.

The Associated Press reports Tagovailoa will miss the rest of the season with a hip injury.

Alabama officials confirmed the Crimson Tide quarterback was airlifted to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Birmingham. The school later announced he dislocated his right hip.

The junior quarterback was in the midst of an impressive season, throwing for over 2,500 yards and 31 touchdowns against just three interceptions. He missed one game earlier this season after injuring his ankle in the Tide's win against Tennessee.
