The Saints were on the practice fields in California again today as they wrapped up a second joint practice with the Los Angeles Chargers.

WWL analyst Deuce McAllister said today’s workout had more of an OTA feel to it as portions of the practice were done without full pads.

The Saints all-time leading rusher did say that the practices were competitive and gave a slight edge to the Chargers in Friday’s workout as they were able to create turnovers. He added that Saints receivers needed to do a better job of securing passes on those particular reps.

But that didn’t mean that the New Orleans receiving core hasn’t had a good week in the Sunshine State.

McAllister specifically said he thought the Saints receivers as a whole were impressive against the Chargers.

He pointed out receivers Cyril Grayson and Simmie Cobbs as players with strong efforts Friday as well as tight end Dan Arnold.

McAllister also said Saints defensive backs have made nice plays in the joint workouts as well.

He said cornerback Eli Apple had some nice reps along with PJ Williams and the Saints top cornerback Marshon Lattimore.

“I think we take him for granted sometimes,” McAllister told Sports Talk’s Bobby Hebert and Deuce McAllister. “Marshon Lattimore had two really nice coverages — one where he really should have almost got an interception. He was late breaking on the ball but he still was able to know it down and one on a deep route they tried him and he basically had perfect coverage.”

The Saints are back in action Sunday afternoon as the face the Chargers in a preseason matchup at 3 p.m.
