LSU football coach Ed Orgeron spoke with Sports Illustrated Tuesday night and told the outlet that he’s spoken with his team about the death of George Floyd.

Floyd died in police custody while onlookers filmed Minneapolis police pinning him to the ground with one kneeling on Floyd’s neck.

That footage sparked national outrage and has led to protests nationwide with citizens calling for justice and reform.

Orgeron told Sports Illustrated that he thought what happened to Floyd was terrible and wanted to speak with his team before making public comments.

“My players and former players are hurting, and they let me know they’re hurting,” Orgeron told Sports Illustrated. “When they’re hurting, it hurts me. I love all my players like they were my own. I know some are hurting right now, and I totally support them. I will not tolerate racism, and they know it.”

Oregon becomes the latest hit profile Louisiana sports figure to comment on Floyd tragedy.

Saints coach Sean Payton participated in a digital protest and members of the Saints and Pelicans formed a coalition with the goal of advocating for causes of minority citizens.
