MOBILE, Ala. — Blake Ferguson was a four-year starter at deep snapper for LSU including the Tigers’ 2019 national Championship season.

The Georgia native was a veteran in the Baton Rouge locker room. But now, as he prepares for the 2020 NFL Draft, he’s looking forward to being a “young guy” again.

“All of a sudden, I’m no longer the fifth-year, veteran long snapper,” he said. “But that’s something I’m excited for. I’m excited to learn. I’m a student of the game and so that’s something I’m ready and prepared for.”

He started his NFL journey this week at the Reese’s Senior Bowl where he had a simple goal.

“I'm trying to show that I’m the best snapper in the country,” he said, “That’s something that’s been my goal for a long time — is to be here at the Senior Bowl.

“There’s a lot of opportunities to be in front go the scouts, be in front of the coaches, be in front of the GMs.”

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect said he was aiming to show those scouts during the game and the week’s practices that he’s consistent as he know one bad snap could be the difference between being on or off a roster.

“Every snap matters,” he said. “Every snap is your job. Every snap is your livelihood, so that’s something that I’m excited about.”

Ferguson said his dream has always been to play in the NFL and that he’s looking forward to going through the draft process.

He added that he was proud of the contributions he made to LSU’s national championship season which including helping true freshman kicker Cade York connect on 21-27 field goal attempts and 89 of 93 extra point attempts.

“We talk about it all the time. We are a unit when we run out there on to the field,” Ferguson said. “We are a unit and Cade and Zach (Von Rosenberg) and I, when we miss, we miss as a unit. So that’s something that we work so hard towards throughout the season is making sure everyone is comfortable. That way, when we go out on the field in a heated moment, we’re smooth.”
