One of the largest dog parades in the world is set to roll Sunday at 2 p.m. when the Krewe of Barkus takes to the streets French Quarter.

“Every year we are always amazed at how the parade seems to grow and what people do in terms of being creative with the theme,” Krewe spokesperson Catherine Oliver said. “So every year we just look forward to that seeing what people come out with, seeing what they can do with the theme.”

This year’s Barkus theme is “Bark to the Future: Barkus Return to the ‘80s” and Oliver said the crew is excited about the potential costumes for participants.

Interested dogs can be registered on the Barkus website or at Armstrong Park Sunday before the parade.

This year’s parade royalty is King Edward VII “Eddy”, the son of Cheryl and Don Bloomenstiel and Her Majesty XVIII, Queen Belle Hebert, daughter of Marc Hebert of Old Metairie.
