The first eight rows of the Superdome as well as every other NFL stadium will be covered for the 2020 season in an effort to protect players, coaches and staff from COVID-19.

The measure was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter and confirmed in a statement from the New Orleans Saints.

"Based on the NFL meeting today, it will be mandated that stadiums cover the first eight rows in the stadium," a statement from the Saints reads. "This covering is being done for health and safety of players, staff, employees fans and broadcasters."

The team is in contact with season ticket holders in those seats about relocating, refunding or crediting them. The Saints also specified that those season ticket holders' status would not be affected for future seasons and that the first eight row covering would be revisited at a later date.
