When Emmanuel Sanders became a free agent, his grandmother made it clear where she wanted him to play this season.

“She said ‘We praying you go to New Orleans,’” Sanders said. “… My grandma was talking about New Orleans because she loves that team. She loves Drew Brees, she loves Sean Payton and she loves the offense and she loves to watch me play.”

So when Sanders signed with Saints his grandmother said ”was so excited about it.”

But the veteran receiver’s grandmother wasn’t the only one who was excited the 5-foot-11, 180-pound receiver was on his way to New Orleans.

“Right when I signed, Drew texted me telling me how excited he was to play with me and I told him I’m excited to play with him as well,” Sanders said.

He Sanders said there were several reasons he wanted to join the Saints as well.

“I’ve been a fan of Sean Payton and Drew Brees for a very long time,” he said. “I’ve seen them do it at a high level for a very long time and I’m excited.”

The 33-year old receiver thinks this offense will be a good fit for him.

“It reminds me 2014 when I linked up with Peyton (Manning) and we were passing the ball and slinging the ball and it was a pass happy offense,” Sanders said. “I’m excited to get back into a system like this and hopefully do what I did in 2014.”

That season, Sanders had career-highs of 101 catches and 1,404 yards and nine touchdowns. He also is looking forward to playing in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

“Every time I played in the New Orleans stadium or arena, it’s always a good time,” he said. “It’s always a good vibe and I just love the indoor environment, and the black and gold and the songs that the play.

“The past game that I played I was just looking around like man this is cool.”

That last game was also a productive one for him as he caught seven passes for 157 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a touchdown pass in the San Francisco 49ers 48-46 win against the Saints.

Sanders said he was ready to get to work with his new team as he thinks the Saints have a good opportunity to win a Super Bowl.

“I’m ready to get the chemistry down with Drew. I’m ready to learn the offense. I’m ready to go,” he said. “It’s exciting times for me and my family. It’s exciting times for the New Orleans Saints.

“You can’t take these times for granted. To have a team like this, you gotta take advantage of it. But it’s not going to be easy. Obviously on paper we look dangerous but at the same we gotta put it all together and the only way we can do that is through hard work.”
