Last Sunday, DJ Swearinger played against the Tennessee Titans.

This Sunday, Swearinger will again face the Titans, only this time he’ll wear a New Orleans Saints uniform.

The veteran defensive back was cut by the Oakland Raiders Monday in a move Swearinger said he understood.  In a day he was on his way to play with a team he thinks is Super Bowl bound.

“I’ve been watching it from a far, seeing Drew (Brees) break all these records, seeing just where they’re headed," Swearinger said. "The last two years they got cheated....I feel like, or however you may call it…

“I feel like this is the year for the Saints.”

Swearinger used the word winning to describe every aspect of the franchise and said he noticed the positive attitude shortly after arriving at the facility.

“You can feel that vibe when you walk in the locker room,” Swearinger said. “Whether it’s on the defensive side of the ball, whether it’s the way coaches talk… I’m just happy to be a part and I’m looking forward to helping in whatever way I can.”

Swearinger said the Saints hadn’t discussed a specific role for him when signing him, but he’s working to be ready for whatever they ask him to do.

“I’m going to do whatever I can, whether it’s special teams, whether it’s a backup role, whether they need me to play, I’ll be ready for it,” he said.

Swearinger, who’s in his seventh season in the NFL spent time with both the Arizona Cardinals this season and most recently the Raiders.  He’s totaled 48 tackles and two pass deflections this season.
