Zion mania creates weird issue with Pelicans ticket demand

Zion Williamson makes his NBA debut tonight! The excitement is driving up ticket demand, but maybe not in the way you'd think.

Zion Williamson's long-awaited debut doesn't exactly have people trying to scalp their tickets for sky high prices. It may have to do with Coach Alvin Gentry's announcement about Williamson's playing time.

"It's going to be very limited minutes," the coach said recently of Williamson's court debut.

Jeff Gurian with the online ticket reseller Gametime says that probably threw cold water all over the demand.

"People just aren't willing to put a premium to see him play for what could be five to ten minutes," he said.

In fact, the fans seem to be willing to wait and see Zion play later after getting a little time under his belt, according to Gurian.

"Subsequent games against the Nuggets and the Celtics on Friday and Sunday are actually listed for more," said Gurian, "maybe with the expectation that they expect him to play more and he'll be in a little bit better shape and they can see more of him in his follow-up games."
