Gretna Police say a man stabbed his girlfriend to death as she pushed her baby in a stroller. The infant child was found crying on the ground next to his mother's body.

Police today tell us they got a call shortly after 5:00 a.m. Thursday about a body laying in the 1200 block of Amelia Street. There, officers found the victim, 25-year-old Traniel Gray, with 29 stab wounds to her chest, and her baby boy nearby

"The baby was laying next to his mother, crying," said Capt. Russel Lloyd with Gretna Police. Police say the child was unharmed.

Lloyd says detectives were able to determine from interviews and surveillance video in the area that the woman had been pushing a baby stroller and walking with her boyfriend, 41-year-old Damone Ussin, when Ussin attacked her. Police arrested Ussin this morning in Harvey.

Police say this isn't the first time Ussin has had run-ins with the law.

"He's been in the system numerous times," said Lloyd, noting there was also a battery warrant on Ussin for a July incident involving Gray.
