A woman was shot while driving on the interstate past downtown New Orleans Saturday.

According to the NOPD, the unidentified 43-year-old woman arrived at the hospital overnight Saturday suffering from three gunshot wound to her backside. She was hospitalized early Saturday morning.

The police were called, and the woman told officers she had been shot around 2 a.m. as she was driving on I-10 eastbound by the Orleans Avenue exit. She said she heard gunshots and her vehicle window was shattered. She realized she was shot in the buttocks and managed to drive herself to the hospital for treatment.

Few other details were immediately available, but NOPD officials said they were investigating the incident Saturday as an aggravated battery by shooting. The victim's condition was unknown, but she was expected to survive.

NOPD officials ask anyone with information into crimes that can lead to an arrest to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
