The 2018 NFC South champion New Orleans Saints could be in a position to earn a first-round bye when they kick off against the Carolina Panthers.

It all depends on how the Green Bay Packers do at Chicago when they play the Bears at noon on Sunday at Soldier Field.

If the Packers (5-7-1) can upset the 9-4 Bears, all the Saints (11-2) need to do is defeat the 6-7 Panthers on Monday Night Football at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte and they will earn at least a first-round bye in the NFC Playoffs.

If the Bears win, the Saints would have to win two out of their three remaining games to lock in the bye.

The Los Angeles Rams (11-2) kick off against the 6-7 Philadelphia Eagles at 7:25 p.m. Sunday. A Rams loss would give the Saints room to breathe in their quest for home field advantage throughout the playoffs, but it's still too soon for any NFC team to clinch that honor this week.

With the same record as the Saints, the Rams would also benefit from a Bears loss. It's possible both the Saints and Rams could secure a first-round bye this week.
