New Orleans Police today released security video taken from the scene near where an officer was shot and killed last month. Superintendent of Police Michael Harrison said they want to give as full an accounting as possible of the incident, in which an NOPD cop shot the suspected cop-killer.

Police say Officer Marcus McNeil and three other officers were patrolling New Orleans East October 13 when they encountered Darren Bridges, who fled on foot when the officers tried to approach him.

The cops separated as they pursued the suspect. McNeil caught up with him near some apartment buildings at Lake Forest Boulevard Tara Lane. Police say the two struggled, and McNeil attempted to subdue Bridges with his Taser, but it was ineffective and the suspect fatally shot McNeil.

Officer Stephen Stephano encountered Bridges a short time later. Police say the two exchanged shots, with Stephano hitting Bridges three times. Bridges was taken to the hospital, and has since been released and booked into Orleans Parish Prison, where he awaits first degree murder charges.

Officer Stephano is on administrative assignment pending the investigation.
