Voodoo Bone Lady arrested

The Voodoo Bone Lady, aka Onassys Bloomberg, actually April Caldwell, is accused of shooting an ex-boyfriend in French Quarter Tuesday night.

It all began at Caldwell's 5-star Voodoo Bone Lady Haunted Tours on Royal Street near St. Peter around 7:30 in the evening.

The 41-year old woman was engaged in an argument with her former boyfriend, a 56-year-old man, when she reportedly pulled a handgun and shot the man in the abdomen.

The parlour room drama played out in front of a family of street performers who told the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate they had heard the couple quarreling before the gunfire rang out.

Caldwell is a local entrepeneur who runs a number of businesses including Voodoo Bone Lady Voodoo Shop and Vintage African Masks.  She is also a self-described psychic.

After her arrest Tuesday night, Caldwell was charged with aggravated battery, a felony which could land her in prison for 10-years.

Complicating the matter the felony charge itself.  Caldwell's license as a tour operator could be suspended under Louisiana law while her case is adjudicated and then ban her from running tours for upwards of five years if convicted.
